Nostradamus 2

Post by Evie »

In the year 2064, following the Grestinian disasters of the early 2060s at the hands of the young Kroman Republic, on a one way trip, New Grestin launched 12 brave souls and committed them to the purple haze known as Eve. The Nostradamus colony ship, assisted by 3 AutoOps launched in the first half of the year, from Mt Mun in New Grestin. Partaking in the backdrop that was the Dres affair, between the United Kafrican Pact and JCS, threatening to taint the entire project with the blood of Kerbals. Coasting through space for the next 2 and a half years, arriving at the purple planet in 2067, paying Wovian convoy escorts a total of 50,000 funds to protect them from Mercantile Space forces. They came in peace for all Kerbalkind, yet were ever beholdant to the kerbinside whims of the New Grestin State.

Towards the end of 2067 the New Grestin States would refocus their colonial ambitions to the inner Kerbol system, a modification of the D3 directive, to turn Eve into the new home for Grestinians. The world stage was invited to this endeavour, with Grestin purchasing the SSTO Anaconda from Solaria, easing transport to and from the purple planet. In 2070 the colonists would begin their own independent space center, capable of servicing L3000X SSTO craft, using resources gathered from the Dres outpost. The Kellen Evian Space Center (KESC), in memory of Kellen Kerman the former Grestinian Commander in Chief. With the first flight being initially planned to take place 8 years later, 2078. Once the center was completed it was planned for raw materials to be transported through the Grestin space logistics network until the colony was self-sustaining. Of course Kerbin geopolitics would eventually see an end to the Grestinian plan, yet artifacts of the old colony are sure to exist in the modern day.

Following the successful launch and landing of Wilbus Farnese 6, carrying Carol O’Connor into Low Kerbin Orbit, Nostradamus 2 was rolled out. The window for an efficient transfer between Kerbin and Eve, the purple planet, was open. Repurposing a spacecraft that was originally supposed to be a Mun impact mission, the Farnese Aramore D vehicle would carry the Nostradamus probes out to Eve.

Delayed for weather to allow a storm to pass the Angus spaceport, the countdown held for 4 hours, offsetting the time that the Aramore would need to relight to burn for the transfer trajectory. Reliably, the stage and a half Farnese, using its high performance, inserted the Nostradamus spacecraft into orbit, before releasing the Aramore upper stage. Immediately the engine would ignite, propelling the Nostradamus spacecraft to a transfer between Kerbin and Eve. After the successful deployment and checkout of Nostradamus 2, a second vehicle was rolled to Launch Complex 14, repeating the same launch process as only a few days previous, just as successfully as Nostradamus 2’s launch and insertion, Nostradamus 3 would inject into a Kerbin-Eve transfer orbit. Beginning their long coast to the purple sphere that we have looked up to since Kerbals left their caves.

God bless the United States of Central Kafrica.
