We will not sign the treaty
March 25th, 2208, Central Kafrican office of state.
The day was a nice sunny day, with Secretary of State, the former President Rhonda Reguwu taking her morning walk across the State Green, just opposite Memorial House, the seat of Kafrican power. As she briskly walked her rounds, around the central maple tree, a junior diplomat rushed to her, his face pale with worry. “Mrs Reguwu!” He’d cry, an unmistakable sense of urgency. Under most circumstances she would shoo her junior diplomatic staff away until after her walk, preferring to have time alone. Yet this time, she knew it was different.
“What’s the matter?” she’d ask in her usual, practiced and Presidential tone, taking a seat on the bench a the seat of the Maple’s strong trunk. Listening closely with care and concern, like a mother would to a distressed child. “Secretary, we have received communication from Windsteer, verified diplomatic dispatch. The news is grim. As we are aware, the suspicion among us and our allies are that Basil are plotting to take over the entire planet.” Rhonda would nod, soothing his nerves as his voice dropped to a calm, conversational and serious tone.
“They are telling us that the Imperial Union has actionable intelligence that Basil will be attempting a takeover of East Hook and the Pan-Veiidic commonwealth.” she’d nod, smiling confidently for a moment, before speaking to soothe the young diplomat’s nerves. “Well, I don’t believe that’s credible, first of all, from my intelligence reports, a war between Basil and the Imperial Union would be prohibitively expensive, for both sides.”
The young man would butt into her sentence, cutting her short, almost rudely however the secretary didn’t mind this, knowing how stressful it is to be on the receiving end of invasion threats. “The Imperial Union has invited Central Kafrica to become a protectorate of the Imperial Union.” Replying simply and softly, like a mother reassuring her child, she’d speak with conviction and confidence, “That’s not happening, first of all the President would never sign such an act, second of all the Senate would most certainly maul her either physically or politically if she did” she’d pause, giving the diplomat a reassuring look, that her experience and education had taught her better than to fold. Cutting her brisk walk short she stood up, walking into the diplomatic offices, with the young diplomat following.
“I hear we have communication from Windsteer?” Rhonda would speak up, gaining the room’s attention, before a senior diplomat, working the communications between the states approached her; “Yes ma’am we do, they have told us that Basil has plans for a standing military of 400 million by the year 2210. They say they are plotting to invade the world” She’d stand back, pausing for a moment, her hand scratching her chin. “Call the President” she’d speak sternly with conviction. Informing the Imperial delegation that she needs to involve the President of Kafrica on this matter. About 5 minutes later, escorted by her foot body guards, President Lilly Barrett, who was eating lunch before being called to the Office of State. Arriving in her usual Presidential gowns, already briefed on the situation. After a short conversation with Secretary of State Rhonda Reguwu. The pair directed the diplomatic staff to show their intelegence. Their response was materiel, giving the office economic data from the Basilian budget. Pointing out that Basil had 100 million in annual production. Shocked, the Diplomatic staff deemed this impossible. Being bankrolled by BIM, an organisation with at least 600 million funds by itself, outmatching any national GDP. Taking a few moments for the staff to convene with the Military, who quickly informed them that a war between Basil and the IU would quickly run into the 8 figure cost ballpark.
“We don’t think Basil has the funding pipeline for world conquest” the Kafrican diplomatic delegation telegrammed off, before quickly getting a response. “They do. Invasion = free money. They also have a craft advantage over 90% of the world, on top of the 400 million dollar military.” After a few moments, the Imperial delegates would add, “You can think about our proposal for a while, but there's a reason all the big Superpowers are concerned by this development. We’d prefer it if you kept this under wraps until you came to your own decision.”
After a moment of stunned silence, simultaneously the President and the Secretary of State sighed, before exasperatingly declaring to the diplomatic offices “Bullshit!” It was known that the United Imperial Federation was also funding Basil’s expanding military, the UIF is a superpower. Reiterating to the Imperial Union that “Central Kafrica remains neutral, we do not want war. Nor do we want to be a protectorate. We wish to maintain our full, complete independence. The United States of Central Kafrica will not be signing the treaty, as confirmed by the Senate.” After a short silence, the Imperial delegation, dejected and arrogant, replied to the Central Kafrican affirmation of our own self determination by brutally violating her sovereignty. “That’s unfortunate. We really didn’t want to go to war with you”
Flaberghasted, the Senior diplomat immediately responded, not even consulting with the President, “Central Kafrica is neutral. We don’t want war. We don’t want to be a protectorate. We want to be left alone.” The Imperial Union struck back; “Nobody wants war, nobody except Basil. They will bring war to you no matter what they do. They’re not going to stop at the Pan-Veiidic Commonwealth.” as the delegation realised Windsteer’s contradiction, the response was sent “And Kafrica will then fight for its independence”
The Imperial Union questioned Central Kafrican diplomats on their resolve, yet we stand firm. “Again. Kafrica will fight for its independence if the need arises. Kafrica has been in this scenario before” The Imperial delegates were clearly frustrated at this stubbornness and insubordination from their so-called allies. Their so-called allies that they are now telling to become their subjugated colony, adding to their global empire, sapping the resources from pristine nationstates. Into their own pockets. Leeches. Responding, in total arrogance, “We need money to bump our production to match Basil’s by 60%. It’d be good to achieve that peacefully. Kafrica should bump its military budget to 10 million”
The last point an agreeable one, yet not to defend against Basil, but to defend against the nation who calls itself “Kafrica’s ally”
The Kafrican diplomatic staff began scheming among themselves, wishing to summarise the correspondence in a simple manner. “So, what we are gathering here is: Either, Central Kafrica signs the treaty, war breaks out in Baskay, Central Kafrica becomes involved in a war. Or option two, that Central Kafrica does not sign the treaty, Central Kafrica becomes involved in a war” Responding to the first, feigning their true intentions, having communicated earlier that “The Imperial Union intends to invade Strelka to boost its economy” the outright lie of the Imperial Union, that “Central Kafrica dies a horrible death from Basil who has an 800 million fund military.” or that “The Imperial Union contains the Basilian threat before it balloons”
Snapping back, Kafrica stood its ground, “This implies that the Imperial Union is going to declare war on Central Kafrica for money” With the Imperial delegation defending, replying with one word. “Grestschluss” a threat on Strelkan Suid Kafrika, the SS state who had assisted the Central Kafrican government in removing the Drimp menace from our lands. “Threatening Strelkan Suid Kafrika, a nation that the United States of Central Kafrica has a Mutual Defensive Pact. One which in this case we will honor. The action of placing Strelkan Suid Kafrika under Imperial invasion would activate Kafrican forces.” The Imperial Union dropped their weak facade. “Kromeschluss” blatantly referencing the wars of the 2090s, the wars that Kafrica had been through once more. The wars that were caused by Kafrican states signing treaties giving the majority or all of their production to the power of KAFSOC. A power based in the same region where the Imperial Union holds territory. In a last ditch effort, the Imperial Union directly threatened Kafrican sovereignty; “Look, would you rather have this war happen on your doorstep, and in your cities, or in the Tau Sea and Veiid. The war is inevitable” The final correspondence between the Imperial Union and Central Kafrica was insulting, with Kafrica telling the Imperial Union “We believe that the war is avoidable” and the Imperial Union asking “are you retarded”
If the United States of Central Kafrica were retarded, the United States of Central Kafrica would be giving its production to the Imperial Union. We shall still give the Imperial Union our production, We will give them the production of our bullet factories. The free world returns to a state not seen since 2097.
May God bless us once more, may freedom prevail, may traitors burn. God Bless the United States of Central Kafrica.
