South Dres Free State seeks contractor for orbital fleet
As part of President Irgen Kahl's recently pulicised plans for militarisation of the South Dres Free State, the South Dres National Security Board has issued a tender for various types of armed orbital craft it intends to use in defence of its space, namely the following:
A short range orbital craft primarily aimed at carrying missiles
A medium range orbital craft able to project power within a limited region of Kerbolar orbit
A long range orbital craft or set of craft able to be deployed to any given location in the Kerbolar system (ground prescence on bodies not required.)
The government of the South Dres Free State believes it necessary for the nation to maintain such capabilities in order to defend its sovereignity from other nations.
Any corporation capable of manufacturing such craft are invited to submit competitive designs to the South Dres National Security Board. Corporations which produce satisfactory results may be awarded a contract to put such craft into production.
Some members of the SDFS' government have posited state-led production as a possibility, though most members of government (and perhaps most importantly their corporate backers) have expressed support for leaving as little in the hands of the state as possible.
