The Centennial Election

2209 has arrived.

Cheers and fireworks erupted all across the streets, cities and villages of the Iroan Republic as the arrow of time swept its people eagerly into the year of the nation's centennial. The atmosphere of Nowruz is but pure jubilation on every corner of every marketplace and town square as people take in the sight of their neighbours, dressed now in intricate woven colours, laden with torches and vegetables, and heirlooms to be laid out in the plaza for others to find new ownership and joy in.

It is not yet Nakh-ha, but the observant notice those from other cities, donned in Parezrawi coin-necklaces, Karsodon pants, Vagani kufiyah, and from beyond. All here to celebrate the Republic's annual display encouraging the appreciation of it's related, but multi-ethnic roots. They stand in great squares around walless venues showcasing music traditional and contemporary, and plant flowers in great fields tilled for the occasion, having travelled kilometers to find their places in a patch of dirt.

It is not yet Ruz-e Shenasayi, 7 full months away, but purple banners still flutter, held aloft in triumphal rows of those who will not forget revolution and the resistance to apartheid from which the Republic was birthed. A great spirit has taken hold of the small nation in what is sure to become a year-long celebration of what Iridia has to offer.

But from behind glowing cheeks and parched, but satisfied lips there lies a disquiet within. Kolus has plunged once again into war, one which nearly came to their doorstep a year prior. The buzz about budgets and inflation and the illegal fishing in the waters off Npalal threatening the routh population has grown louder again. Such is the tune of the 9th and 4th years of every decade.

With Vazirol Soleiman Kobanei's second term coming to an end, election maps have returned to a familiar grey. The start of primaries signals the beginning of the scramble for the Mojlis' 50 seats, as well as provincial elections for the governorships of Iroa's 11 velayats, 35 estandari and 18 shahrestan.

Eyes are on the Vazirol himself, who has announced his intentions to run for a third term, but even the earliest polling reflects the stale image of a man whose accomplishments amount to little more than holding the country together for another 10 years. Something he laments every time the JMMI frontrunners pay pretextual affection to before suggesting wild cuts to institutions their staffers discovered yesterday in order to squeeze in more funding for the military.

The strong labour culture of the Belor coast steelworkers has crept its way northward into the cities of the harbour, the laquer of their dusty fingerprints embedded in the beams of every building. The former governor of Iroshahr; Behnaz Farmani, who won over the city by narrow margins 5 years ago announces a new chapter in her politcal career, seeking the nation's 1st district.

In the east, Ahmed Ziyad Jalalzai now seeks the governorship of Nufayat. Son of the recently deceased Abdulkhaliq; warlord and founder of Hezboud, the new head of the Jalalzai tribe makes clear in no uncertain terms his discontent with the religious party's designed isolation from Maslouf.

As more candidates enter, the national spirit swells, but it arcs out along disparate directions.

We look forward to another term of cooperation with an Iroan leadership embodying the democratic will of the people
