An Inconsequential Conversation
Two guards stand on watch outside their camp in Staging Ground 2 near the Hearthian-Sarkyzian Border.
Through their Nods the sky is lit up with millions of unseen stars.
"Hey"
"Yeah?"
"Do you ever wonder why we are here?" asks the first guard.
Lost in the stars, the second guard takes a second to respond.
"It's one of life's great mysteries, isn't it? Whyt are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence, or is there really an Eye watching everything? You know, with a plan for us and stuff. I don't know, man, but it keeps me up at night."
The first guard stares dumbfounded at his partners stupidity.
"What?! I mean why are we out here, by this canyon?"
"Oh, Uh... Yeah." The second guard responds, disappointed in their assumptions.
"What was all that stuff about the Eye?"
"Uh... hm? Nothing."
"You wanna talk about it?"
"No"
"You sure?"
"Yeah"
"Seriously though, why are we out here? As far as I can tell, it's just a deep canyon in the middle of nowhere. No way across at all."
"Mm hmm."
"The only reason that we set up a Hearthian Base here, is because they have a Sarkyzian Base over there. And the only reason they have a Sarkyzian Base over there, is because we have a Hearthian Base here."
"yeah, because we're about to fight eachother"
The first guard drops the topic as the next rotation of guards approaches.
They won't get much sleep that night...
