Former presidential candidate Akimo flees to Zuai
After a crushing defeat in the 2208 Larrean presidential election, candidate Konala Giuseppe Akimo del Salvatore Tentacolare IV, otherwise known as K.G. Akimo, had made a series of outlandish statements about the election. He claimed that voter-fraud was involved, and that "God (Thallas) himself told him that he was going to become president" and that "a dangerous and demonic Cabale has taken control of the country". Akimo, a former Thallassi priest and member of the conservatives association from Alecton, is no stranger to declarations of divine providence. During the election race he campaigned on the basis of him being chosen by God, and that every other candidate would be a vote for the devil himself, calling them "fish and capals pretending to be kerbals and wearing kerbal skins". He has also had allegations of being a serial deadbeat father, with many women having come forward with tales of Akimo charming them on the basis of "divine purpose" then disappearing after he found out they were pregnant.
He had gone quiet after his initial outbursts, but in early 2209 he was convicted of illegally breaking and entering into a federal office in Dresa. He was arrested and placed into custody while an investigation was conducted into his motives. However, before they could finish their investigation, Akimo broke out of his detention and fled the city. The central law enforcement bureau has been on a manhunt for the priest ever since, and has had no success in determining his whereabouts until last night.
Akimo, dressed in a dark robe, posted a video of himself on a ship surrounded by what appear to be mercenaries of the infamous Thallas Battalion. He explained that he "is embarking on a holy Jihad of truth, and has cast himself off to lands of serenity and purity, and will let the divine power of God carry him through his next purpose".
The ship was quickly identified as a stolen cargo ship which has long been suspected of being in the possession of the Thallas Battalion. Eyewitness reports have indicated that the ship has shown up in ports in Zuai. The Thallassi republic is de-facto part of Larrea, but many federal institutions do not have jurisdiction in the colony, thus it is believed that Akimo has fled to Zuai to avoid persecution in the mainland. The central authorities have notified Zuai law enforcement, but it is unlikely that they will carry out the will of the mainland.
