NEW CORONATA; 2212 - Systems Commonwealth orbital authorities have announced the UIF Chamber of State ship Isaac has been declared lost, its final transmission being a distress call and emergency alarm following its interception by a squadron of Solari Extraplanetary Administration spacecraft during its diplomatic mission from Duna to the Basilic Laythe colony of Pistis.

Shortly after the announcement of the Aeneas Program, the UIF dispatched an envoy vessel from Duna to Jool, containing a team of delegates from both the UIF and Basilic governments. The objective of the Issac was to hold a diplomatic summit in Pistis, part of a plan for continued reconciliation with the new Basil government - formerly the opposition party operating in-exile within the UIF - as well as deliberation for the increased investment into the Jool System for orbital infrastructure. The Systems Commonwealth, specifically ISEA, had interest in using Pistis as a headquarters for the development of the atmospheric scoopers required to fuel the IRV Fort Grace under construction in the Duna system.

The Issac reported contact with a flotilla of picket ships belonging to the SEA; assumed to be on a routine patrol, the envoy ship transmitted in panic after what appeared to be a few ships in one radar contact split to enter a combat spread - registering now as 40 separate military craft on approach to its position. The Isaac was last observed squawking its distress frequency before all contact was lost with the vessel. Attempts to positively identify the Isaac from Inner System scanners have so far been inconclusive.

Renata Budron, one of the two Basilic senators who escaped to the UIF to form the government-in-exile last year, was one of the major figures on the 12-man crew of the Isaac. Herself being the Senator from Pistis, Budron was returning to her home planet with the UIF representatives in her company to facilitate the planned diplomatic summit. She was accompanied by two members of her team of staff.

G.S. Langlais, Director of the Office of Astral Intelligence, was also reported on board the vessel, as confirmed by an OAI press conference at their headquarters in St. Arc. Langlais was travelling without a security detail as part of the mission to coordinate security for UIF convoys entering the system, given the Joolian history of arbitrarily threatening to shoot anyone who enters the sphere of influence. It is likely the OAI’s Deputy Director will presume the role of Acting Director until the ultimate fate of Langlais is confirmed.

Lastly, Georgiy Korolev, UIF Ambassador to Basil, was the last prominent figure on board the Isaac. Being head delegate of the UIF to Basil, the summit would see Korolev continuing his role as the lead representative in the system. Korolev has recently been in the limelight due to the diplomatic crisis of the Newserian Corridor, as well as his connections with the Iroan Republic, and his popularity as a leading representative of the Newserian diaspora.

The Korolev Institute for the Newsori Arts, part of the University of Shenistan, Gaineamh, was constructed in the diplomat’s honor. Beyond his work as the Ambassador to Basil, Korolev had been a popular figure in cultural exchanges with Iroa, contributing significantly to good relations with Aontas as a whole.

While the UIF Cutter Service is preparing to launch a rescue mission, their closest spacecraft are in the Duna system; being unable to arrive for hundreds of days, any survivors would have long since perished. Furthermore, the unpredictability of SEA forces in the system and irritable nature of the indigenous Jool forces make a rescue attempt especially hazardous. The Systems Commonwealth is reportedly in communications with the Pistis government, the AASC, and the Aontan colonies of Bop and Pol in order to conduct a search-and-rescue mission.

The Jool System has long been plagued by an unpredictable doctrine of hostility towards expeditions from the Inner Systems. Once part of the Jool Federation and later the Laythian Union, the indigenous forces of the SEA have maintained the culture of militant isolation of Laythe from their predecessors; any nation not already present there had been prohibited from entering, under threat of lethal force. After over a century, this policy has withered with the succeeding governments, as Jool has generally declined under this policy of eccentric autarky; but the threat of hostile action has sufficed to impact the willingness of neutral civilian traffic to enter the system to the present day. The suspected action against the Issac itself appears as a travesty of magnanimous proportions, an inherently immoral act exacerbated by the popular and diplomatic nature of the delegates comprising the State Chamber Envoy. While still assumed missing in action, concern for the safety of the crew has sparked an outrage within the UIF already an order of magnitude larger than the loss of the IBC Storm Chaser over East Hook two years ago.
