Since the reinstatement of Greater Aontas in 2150, a treaty renegotiation window has occurred on the national level every seven years. During the 2213 renegotiation period the following occurred:
Sahren representatives pressed for merging the Tekkian Federal Army and Sahren Republican Guard to form an Aontan Federal Army, which would increase coordination and reduce research and training costs. This was heavily opposed overall (especially by Granderia and Chosaint) as this would place the force of arms almost entirely within the power of the Federal government. The Tekkian representatives soon joined them as they wanted to retain their existing military procurement strategy. With the Iroan representatives abstaining, the proposal died under near unanimous disapproval.
The Sahrens fared better in economic centralisation as both the representatives of Iroa and Tekkia supported the idea. Further assurances of military federalism secured the deal. In a similar though less important matter Shengal and CATA have merged along with dozens of other important firms causing the majority of the Aontan military industrial complex to be owned by one entity.
This renegotiation stands in stark contrast to all the others as Sahrland has enacted a complete reversal of its previous support of decentralisation. Official statements by the representatives say this is a result of recent worldwide economic stagnation and decline as a result of the Second Kerrag war and the ongoing conflicts around Jool grinding trade from that wealthy system to a complete halt. In particular, Sahrland faces a labour crisis, Iroa’s resource industries have collapsed, Avarua-Polengairdt’s economy has completely halted, and many major companies have been undergoing growth which is unsustainable in the long term.
It remains to be seen if the results will be satisfactory for these changes to survive when the 2220 revisions come around.
