DAKRON, WESTRAY; 2218 - The UIF States-General has passed a bill that would provide for the temporary leasing of F-52 Kargadan fighters from the Maritime Aviation to the Imperial Union's Fleet Air Arm after a series of defects were found with their domestically produced multirole fighter aircraft.
Following a number of accidents during routine flights late last year, the Vocavo-Westrayan government has reluctantly grounded all of its F. 53 multirole fighters and is in the process of recalling all units in service for factory inspection. Publicly available knowledge indicates some manufacturing defects in the thrust vectoring system on the engine caused the recall, leaving their air forces in a state of severe disarray. The Windsteer government, having recognized the severity of their situation and the ever growing threat of the Stahl Sieg regime in southern Kafrica, sent an urgent communique to the Imperial government requesting assistance.
In a unique display of brotherhood and unity between the two nations, though not without a heated debate preceding, the States-General approved an emergency measure to loan some of the Maritime Aviation’s carrier-rated Kargadan fighters to Windsteer 322-144. Opposition to the bill in the Senate came largely from the parties neither in government nor the official opposition, most notably Dust Harvest and the Sovereignist parties, with fringe support from Solidarist and Sanationist Senators. Support for the measure was overwhelming amongst the government and most of the official opposition, and almost unanimous in the Presidium, with the final vote tally standing at 89-11 in favor.
Imperial assent was granted by Her Majesty in a rare public appearance last week, and the transfer of aircraft has been ongoing since then. Some aircraft have received new paint schemes to properly identify them as Vocavo-Westrayan units, including the example pictured, making them the first F-52s to fly for a power in the region in 130 years. The Kargadans are expected to remain on loan for around a year, at which point the last defective fighters are expected to return to service.
