The world burns

Post by Evie »

As the President of Central Kafrica sipped her morning coffee, taking a bite out of her Scrambled eggs, with some falling from her spoon onto her plate as she took a bite. Gently humming along to the tune of a popular song from her childhood. Reminding her of the happy days. Her peaceful thought was interrupted by two gentle taps at the door, yet thinking she was only hearing the structure of Memorial House flex in the gentle breeze thought nothing of it.

“Mrs President!” Came a shout from behind her door, with more frantic knocking. The time had just past 9am and the sun was blazing into her room, under most circumstances, the President was left alone until at least 11am, giving her time to be focused and ready for a day of work.

Unsure what to make of it, she stood up, without wiping her mouth down and walked briskly to the door, opening it. “Yes?” She would ask in an irritated tone, yet her gaze would soften when she saw the sight of the Vice President, Jordyn Maldonado at her door. Pausing for only a brief moment before correcting herself. “Oh, Jordyn, what brings you up to my private quarters this early?” She would ask in a mentoring voice, tilting her head in curiosity, wondering what her second in command had to say to her this morning.

“Mrs President, we have received news that the Imperial Union has embargoed The Second Republic of Basil, The Commonwealth of Irsmuncast, Ur and Mentony, as well as the Federation of Sarkizya and Rovolya.” The President looked unsurprised at this news, afterall it had only been half a year since the Imperial Union threatened the integrity of Kafrican Independence upon her watch. Something that she had worked hard with her secretary of state to deter. “Well I didn’t expect it so early, is there any more news?” the President asked, curious as to what was going on behind the scenes diplomatically.

The VP nodded, “Yes Miss, there is. The Embargo has been cosigned by the Kolusion Commonwealth, we are unsure if the other members are onboard, however the Pan-Veiidic Commonwealth has also signed this declaration of embargo. We are almost certain to see the world burn in flames unseen for over a century.” The President sunk, her face disappointed “oh for fucks’ sake not again” she sighed, retreating to her personal office desk, sitting down and putting her fist on her chin. Seeming deflated to the state of the modern world in 2208. It wasn’t the same as it used to be, so toxic, so fear inducing and complex.

Continuing on, Jordyn then told the President that “Zokesia has also issued a warning to Sarkyzia, that the buildup of Veiidic Weaponry does not align with Kolusian values and that the Zokesian government requests all assets to be vacated within a month or face embargo from Zokesia herself. We are also hearing reports that the Zokesian Royal Airforce are conducting ISR patrols inside Zokesian Airspace”

Nodding the President would pose a sticking question in the mind of her Vice, “Then what of the StahlSieg? What part do they, and their newfound statehood, have to play in this war?” Thinking for a moment, the Vice President responded: “Well, they lost around 2-3 hundred planes in Elohim when Elohimian forces started blowing up their runways they just built for the SS” The President sunk her head into the desk, fearing what the VP would say next, could it be that her nation was now involved in this mess due to the actions of the former President Blimp Drimp. Quietly, speaking up she managed to splurt out “S-so… have the SS activated our MDP?” the President was vulnerable, her career flashing before her eyes, all the peace she had worked for could have evaporated at the flick of a pen. The nation was in no shape to fight a war, yet alone a war burning as bright as the embers of the Korfu strikes.

“No. No they have not” Jordyn would say confidently and with great delight, knowing how much joy it would bring to the ears of her President. “Thank god in my prayers that this is the case. Yet the world is very clearly…well very clearly fucked” Lilly bluntly added. Yet there was nothing more to say, the world was well and truly on fire and about to blow up in its own face.

In the year following, the many declarations of war and imposing of embargo trickled into Lilly’s office, giving her immense pain as to if she would even see the next 5 years with a planet that wasn’t at the hands of irrational arsonists, yet alone if she would be President after the 2210 elections. Every day, her routine had changed. For the last 2 years the President has been rising at 7am, taking her news at 9am, before being thrown into endless meetings about how to defend the continent from the potential of war. Kafrica may have no intention of thrusting herself into the fire, however Kafrica will never discount the possibility of having her house set ablaze. The fall of East Hook with little fight came with surprise to the administration, yet Lilly Barrett stood firm, not wishing to push her country into conflict, not at least the fires of global conflict.

May our forefathers who tamed fire guide us as our entire planet burns from its core.
